Options for the payment of fees:

The monthly debit-order system (see Annexure B). Debit orders are processed over 10-months,from February to November.

For your convenience, there are four possible debit order dates – the 1st, 7th, 15th or the 25thday of the month.

Cash: For security reasons, parents are requested not to bring cash to the School cashier. Cash payments must please be deposited directly at any Nedbank into Penryn’s account. Please note that due to the high banking charges levied on our account when cash is deposited we will charge a fee to the equivalent of 1% of the cash deposit value to your account.

Account statements

All statements for school fees and extras are emailed to parents on a monthly basis (statements will be posted by exception only).

Cheques

We unfortunately do not accept any cheques.

Returned debit orders

In the event of debit orders returned due to insufficient funds or any other reason, an administrative fee of R200 will be levied. Only cash (by direct deposit) or credit card payments will be accepted as further payment on accounts for which debit orders have been returned by the bank.

Interest on arrear accounts

Interest will be charged on overdue accounts at a rate equivalent to the prime interest rate.

Notice periods

Parents are reminded that in terms of the agreement signed by them at the time of the child’s enrolment, they are required to give a full term’s notice in writing (addressed to the Head of that school) if it is their intention to remove their child/children from Penryn. Alternatively, they are required to pay a term’s fees in lieu of notice. Adequate notice is appreciated as it allows Penryn to make timeous arrangements for the re-allocation of the place. Scholars who are admitted to the boarding house will make a commitment for a full calendar year unless they leave the school. Penryn College Fees

Breach of contract

Outstanding fees is a breach of contract with the school. Penryn reserves the right to terminate a contract that is in breach.

There may be additional costs which are, grade and sport dependent, that may be charged during the year. Parents will be informed accordingly as these become due.

Penryn reserves the right to review and correct errors and to amend fees and amounts debited to the account during the year.

Field trips and tours

Tots to Grade 2 attend an annual outing and there are compulsory field trips for all scholars from Grades 3 to 7. The costs of these trips, which include the transport, accommodation, food and other expenses are invoiced during the first term and added to the school fee account and where applicable will be included in the monthly/termly debit orders. Parents will be informed of the exact cost and venue at a later date. The estimated costs are as follows:

The entrance fees are non-refundable.

Scholars leaving a phase to enter another will be required to pay a top up entrance fee to the level required as of the 1st January of the year that their child enters the phase.

The following conditions will apply to foreign based parents on application and before entrance into Penryn namely:

non-refundable entrance fee according to the above fees table must be paid following the successful application of the scholar to enter Penryn.

In addition, foreign based parents will be required to pay the following refundable deposits namely:

Academic – equivalent to 1 (one) terms fees. Hostel – equivalent to 1 (one) terms fees.

Textbooks and Stationery

Scholars from Grade 4 onwards are required to purchase their own stationery in accordance with the lists distributed each year. Stationery packs are provided to scholars from Tots to Grade 3, the cost of which is included in the annual levy.

Damaged or lost books will be for the account of the parent.

Workbook costs up until Grade 7 are included in the annual levy.

Sport and Cultural trips or tours

Additional charges are levied to cover accommodation and outside transport costs for non- compulsory sports and cultural camps or tours. Parents will be advised of the nature and amount of these charges during the year, depending on their child’s selection or involvement in such tours. The amount will be added to the school fee account, but not included in the debit order payment option. This amount should be paid into Penryn’s account via electronic payment. Responsibility of scholars

Parents are reminded that Penryn accepts no responsibility for the safety of scholars who are on Penryn property after the end of the school day or after official school activities. Each school will publish the times of all activities and the times they close/end.

Errors and Omissions

Please note that the amounts in the tables below may be subject to change. Penryn undertakes to provide sufficient notice in such case, together with reasons for such changes.

Re-registration fee – Breached contracts (due to non-payment of accounts in accordance with our terms and conditions) will automatically terminate at the end of the year. In order to re-activate these contracts a re-registration fee of R1 000 will be levied. Please be aware the school’s notice period as stated above must still be met and failure to provide adequate notice will result in a term’s fees being charged to your account.

There are compulsory field trips for all scholars from Grades 8 to 11. Parents will be informed of the exact cost and venue at a later date. Charges for these trips will be reflected on first term statements. The cost of the annual field trip is added to the school fee account. Field trip costs will be included in the monthly / termly debit order.

All scholars entering the College pay the full entrance fee. However, scholars entering the College from Penryn Prep school only, will pay a top up fee to their existing Prep entrance fee.

The following conditions will apply to foreign based parents on application and before entrance into Penryn namely:

Printing and copies

All scholars from Grade 8 – 12 are issued a printing and copying card. This will enable scholars to make prints and/or copies at school for a nominal cost. Amounts can be deposited into the scholar’s card via Intelipay at http://penryn.intelipay.co.za using the scholars unique number issued to them.

Sundry Fees

Sundry Boarding fees

An additional nominal cost of R180 per day or R360 per weekend will be charged for scholars staying in over weekends in the boarding houses. Laundry is outsourced and is charged at approximately R40 per kilogram (this may increase in 2019).

Textbooks and Stationery

Scholars from Grade 8 onwards are required to purchase their own stationery in accordance with the lists distributed each year.

oDamaged or lost books will be for the account of the parent.

oWorkbook costs from Grade 8 onwards will be charged separately as they are subject dependent.

IEB (Independent Examination Board) Examination fees

Fees are set by the IEB and are revised annually. The 2019 matric exam fee is R6 650 per scholar. To make this cost less onerous on our families, this amount will be split and charged per year over a three-year period. Grades 10, 11 and 12 accounts will be debited each January from 2019.

Please note, Penryn will not refund the above fees should a scholar leave after being registered for the IEB NSC exams.

IEB Academic accommodations

Please note that all scholars who apply for, or receive any academic accommodations do so at their own cost.

The fees for Grade 11 IEBT (Mathematics and Physical Sciences), IEB Grade 12 AP English and/or Mathematics, and IEB Grade 12 Maths / Maths Lit project will be debited to the parent’s account.
