Randpark High School Admission Policy

The main purpose of the policy is to establish the processes by which learner admissions to Rand Park High School takes place.

Capacity The school will admit a maximum of 280 learners to Grade 8 in 2023. This includes repeats. The overall capacity of the school is 1450 learners. This is based on the infrastructure of the school (for example, number and size of classrooms, toilets, stairways, health and safety).

Advocacy The Admission process is to be communicated to prospective parents at the school’s Open Day. Further communication will take place through visits to local primary schools and through the school’s newsletter and website. Randpark High School Application Form

Application Process Grade 8 applicants will be required to apply via the GDE admission portal. Because the GDE system does not apply to Grades 9 to 11, these parents will be required to contact the school’s Admissions Officer, Mrs Sharon Glasson via email or telephone 011 793 1246. Alternatively, parents may complete the Online Expression of Interest Form.

Parents who do not have access to the Internet will be permitted to use the computers in the school’s media centre during the official GDE admissions period. Assistance will be provided to parents who do not have access to the Internet or who are computer illiterate and require help with completing the GDE’s online application.

Failure to provide the required supporting documentation specified by the Gauteng Department of Education within the required timeframe will invalidate the online application.

Upon acceptance, successful applicants will be required to complete a Learner Information Form.

Primary Admission Criteria Waiting lists will be compiled using the Gauteng Department of Education’s Admission Policy requirements. Placement is based on weighted criteria which prioritises applicants that live in the Feeder Zone first. The waiting lists will be based on the following admission criteria ranking, in accordance with the Revised Draft Amended Regulations relating to the Admission of Learners to Public Schools, 2018:

  1. The applicant learner’s place of residence is within the feeder zone;
  2. The applicant learner has a sibling attending the school;
  3. The place of employment of at least one of the applicant learner’s parents is within the feeder zone of the school;
  4. The applicant learner’s place of residence is within a 30 kilometre radius of the school; or
  5. The applicant learner’s place of residence is beyond a 30 kilometre radius of the school.

The ranking of the applications for admission shall be in the order of the categories referred to in points 1 to 5 (listed above) and in the order in which the applications are received.

The feeder zone has been determined by the Gauteng Department of Education and is clearly illustrated in the map provided by the Gauteng Department of Education.

Regulation 7 (1) to (4) indicates that all applicants are eligible for Waiting List A, however, placement at the School is dependent on CAPACITY.  Waiting lists will be generated according to the Primary Admission Criteria specified above and the available space based on the order in which applications are received. Waiting List A and Waiting List B will only be allocated at the end of the application period after the system has sorted applications and prioritised same according to the criteria.

After the closing date for applications has passed and the District has approved the process, all successful applicants will be sent a formal written response. Should the school have insufficient space to accommodate all the Waiting List A candidates, then the District Admissions Team will place those unplaced candidates at schools where there is space.

The admission process will not discriminate against learners on the basis of race, ethnic or social origin, colour, gender, HIV/AIDS status, disability, sexual orientation, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language or the ability of the parent to pay fees.
