GRADES 8 and 9

The Grade 8/9 learners will be taught with reference to the National Curriculum Statement Grades R – 12. This curriculum builds on the previous curriculum but also updates it and aims to provide clearer specification of what is to be taught and learnt (CAPS). Learners are offered the same learning areas as at any other high school in KZN.

A learner in Grade 8/9 must offer 9 subjects: ENG (English Home Language), AFR/ZUL (Afrikaans or Zulu First Additional Language), MATH (Mathematics), NS (Natural Sciences), LIFE (Life Orientation), SS (Social Sciences), EMS (Economic Management Sciences), CA (Creative Arts) and TECH (Technology). School-Based Assessment

This is a compulsory component of progression and promotion in all phases. In the senior phase Grade 7-9 the final mark of the learner consists of 40% School-Based Assessment and 60% End-of-year examination.

GRADEs 10,11 and 12

These grades combined are now commonly known as the FET phase and learners select from the following alternatives:

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy

Life Orientation

Choice Subjects – Grade 10 (One from each group)

Physical Science or Business Studies or Computer Applications Technology (CAT)

Accountancy or Consumer Studies or Engineering Graphics & Design

Life Sciences or Electrical Technology or Mechanical Technology or Civil Technology

Choice Subjects – Grade 11 & 12 (One from each group)

Physical Science or Life Sciences or Computer Applications Technology (CAT)

Accountancy or Consumer Studies or Engineering Graphics & Design

Business Studies or Electrical Technology or Mechanical Technology or Civil Technology

GRADE 12 – ACADEMIC INFORMATION

As from 2014 the Grade 12 learners will be taught with reference to the National Curriculum Statement Grades R – 12. This curriculum builds on the previous curriculum but also updates it and aims to provide clearer specification of what is to be taught and learnt (CAPS). Fortunately these learners have been on this curriculum since 2012 when it was phased in during Grade 10. Linpark High School Subjects Offered

Subjects

A learner in Grade 12 must offer at least 7 subjects:

4 compulsory subjects:

* ENGHL (English Home Language)

* AFRFA/ZULFA (Afrikaans or Zulu First Additional Language)

* MATH/MLIT (Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy)

* LIFE (Life Orientation)

3 additional subjects (one from each line):

* PHSC (Physical Science)/LFSC (Life Science)/CATN (Computer Applications Technology)

* ACCN (Accounting)/CNST(Consumer Studies)/GRDS (Engineering Graphics and Design)

* BSTD (Business Studies)/CVLT (Civil Technology)/ELTT (Electrical Technology)/MCHT (Mechanical Technology)

DESIGNATED SUBJECTS

* Applicants who wish to enroll for a degree programme need to ensure that four of their seven subjects are from the designated list.

* The list already includes three of the four compulsory subjects for obtaining the NSC, namely, Languages (ENGHL, AFRFA/ZULFA), MATH/MLIT.

* A learner must then select one or more subjects from the list below, provided that they are not from the same group in order to apply for a degree programme.

School Based Assessment (SBA)

This is a compulsory component of progression and promotion in all phases. In Grade 12 the final mark of the learner consists of 25% School-Based Assessment and 75% End-of-year examination.

The absence of a SBA and/or PAT (Practical Assessment Task) without a valid reason will result in the learner receiving an incomplete result in that particular subject. If there is a valid reason (illness, death in the family ……) evidence must be given.
