Grade 12 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) NSC 2019 results
We are delighted to announce that the Class of 2019 once again achieved a 100% pass rate, for the 10th consecutive year, and a 98% Bachelor’s Degree pass, allowing our students to enrol for tertiary studies.
Sixty-one students wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations in 2019 and achieved 83 subject distinctions in total.
I congratulate the Class of 2019 on their excellent achievements in the final Grade 12 IEB exams.
Top Achievers
Our Dux scholar, Susannah Burger, must be commended for achieving 7 distinctions out of the 8 subjects that she wrote. Her subjects include: Afrikaans First Additional Language (89%); Mathematics (97%); Physical Sciences (86%); English Home Language (91%); Music (90%); Life Sciences (89%) and Life Orientation (97%); Advanced Programme English (70%).
Matshego Kgafela also produced outstanding results, scoring 7 distinctions out of the 8 subjects he wrote: Accounting (82%); Engineering Graphics and Design (91%) Mathematics (90%); Physical Sciences (88%); English Home Language (80%); Setswana First Additional Language (93%); History (76%); and Life Orientation (85%)
Susannah was further listed in the Top 1% of Candidates per Subject in four subjects: English Home Language (91%); Mathematics (97%); Life Sciences (89%) and Life Orientation (97%).
Matshego Kgafela was listed in the Top 1% of Candidates per Subject – Setswana First Additional Language (93%)
IEB National Statistics
11 818 full time candidates and 779 part-time students representing 227 examination centres across Southern Africa wrote the 2019 IEB NSC Examination.
98.82% passed.
89.51% achieved a Bachelors Degree pass
7.91% achieved a Diploma pass

61 students wrote a total of 429 subjects among them (excluding advanced programmes) and achieved the following outstanding results:
- There were 83 subject “outstanding achievements” (Level 7 / distinctions/ 80% +) i.e. 19.3% of subjects written resulted in level 7 achievements.
- There were 120 subject “meritorious achievements” (Level 6 / 70 – 79%) i.e. 27.9% of subjects written resulted in level 6 achievements.
- There were 113 subject “substantial achievements” (Level 5 / 60 – 69%) i.e. 26.3% of subjects resulted in level 5 achievements.
- A total of 316 (73.7%) of the total subjects written produced results better than 60%.
- 36 out of 61 students (59%) achieved a subject distinction in 1 or more subjects.
The following students also achieved exceptionally well in the final examinations: (See the below photograph – Students achieving distinctions – 83 subject distinctions, an average of 1.4 subject distinctions per student).

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the entire Lebone staff for their dedication, commitment, diligence and hard work. More specifically, to Mr Mike Eisen (Principal of the Upper School and Mrs Marie Reynolds (Deputy Principal – Academics), the teachers of the Grade 12’s and all those who nurtured them over the years. These professionals have worked tirelessly to assist our Lebone students to realise these results. The staff must equally share in this success.
